I had the opportunity to get a summer internship with the Girl Scouts of Southeastern Michigan just as they were implementing an reimagined brand. Not only were they changing their image, they were re-directing their goals and objectives. The Marketing and Communication department was very small, and were missing some key personnel. Some design jobs are about sitting back and really thinking out a strategy. This was not one of those assignments. When I arrived, there was a severe backlog of communication materials that desperately needed updating to the new standard. Many of these pieces were put together by volunteers and came as Word Documents, PowerPoint Slides, and the occasional Publisher file.
In the span of a month and a half I was able to update and re-create over 100 documents. These documents were for various communications like fliers for Fund Development, brochures for campgrounds, recruitment posters both in English and Spanish. I was also able to update their stationary, business cards and design some larger displays for special events.
I've selected a few examples that I was pleased with. A few of them have the files as I recieved them.
They were extremely happy with my work and ability to hit the ground running. If you find myself in a similar bind, we should talk. Sometimes all you need is an exta hand to turn things around.
